Hiatus

Unfortunately for me, and anyone that enjoys my photo of the day, my computer appears to be on its last legs. I've been getting the dreaded blue screen for a while now, and tonight it won't even stay on for long before freezing or restarting itself. It appears to be a hardware issue, which I could probably attempt to troubleshoot, but the poor box is 4.5 years old. It may just be time to throw in the towel (and a chunk of our savings) and look for a new computer. In any case,  I won't be able to edit pictures, let alone post them on a regular basis, so my 2014 photo of the day is on hiatus until further notice.

Black Cherry Delight Popcorn

One of many awesome wedding gifts we received was a cookbook titled 101 Things to do with Popcorn. There are some interesting recipes inside and some really fun ones. I've made a couple and decided to try something new tonight. I didn't have the right ingredients for anything specific from the book, so I mixed and matched and came up with my own concoction.  To start, you need some popped popcorn. We don't want the special butter or movie popcorn you can buy in the store because we're putting our own topping on it. So we want to start with about 1/3 cup of unpopped kernels and we're going to dump them in a regular old brown paper lunch bag.  Fold up the top of the bag so the kernels don't come out as they pop.  My microwave has a popcorn setting. If yours doesn't, just put it in for about 3 - 4 minutes and listen for the popping to slow.  After the popcorn is popped comes my least favorite step. It's a little awkward, but necessary if...

Computers...

So far so good, but it hasn't even been 12 hours yet, so we'll see how it goes. Man, am I glad I hold on to these things! If you like my photography (and many of you tell me you do), PLEASE leave comments on my pictures throughout this year. I don't know if I'll be able to continue without that encouragement. Also needed will be suggestions for photography subjects or locations. I'm always looking for ideas!

The invitations

Now that the wedding is over and I don't need to worry about any unexpected guests showing up, I can share the invitations I designed. I was really happy with how they turned out and got a lot of great feedback. You might remember from our Save the Date cards that our reception was a game theme. So I designed the invitations to look like playing cards. The main part of the invitation features the King and Queen of hearts. I found some text online that I liked and edited it a bit to fit our event. Here's what the main invitation final product looked like: Since we also needed to include the addresses for the church, reception, and hotel, I made an Ace of hearts card, too. (Get it? 'A' for address?) I also wanted to include a map since we'd have a lot of out of town guests. I know most people have a GPS these days, but it just seemed like a good idea. For the map, I saved a screenshot of the area in Google Maps, then traced over the lines I wanted in P...
